Professor Bowyer's primary interests are in the areas of computer vision, pattern recognition, image processing and medical image analysis [43, 44, 47, 51, 36, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 61]. His research has been supported by NSF, AFOSR, NASA and the Army Medical Research & Development Command, as well as other organizations. Professor Bowyer serves on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, Image Understanding, Image and Vision Computing, Machine Vision & Applications and several other journals. He also served as the general chair of the 1994 IEEE Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition conference. Professor Bowyer has an established reputation for quality undergraduate teaching, receiving an Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award from the USF College of Engineering in 1991 and a Teaching Incentive Program Award in 1994. Three of the 1990/91 REU participants at USF had papers accepted at different national and international conferences [32, 33, 31]. Three of the 1991/92 REU participants at USF were co-authors of conference papers [48, 34, 35] and one has co-authored a book chapter and a journal paper [51, 36]. Two of the 1992/93 REU participants have had papers accepted at conferences [45, 46]. One of the 1993/94 participants has co-authored a journal paper and another has had a conference paper accepted [65, 47].
